FAQs

Answers to common questions from this episode of Open Mike.
  • How is Love Island USA different from The Bachelor?

One of the guests said The Bachelor has a dramatic and romantic feel, while Love Island has a light-hearted, comedic feel, helped by the narrator, who talks over most of what’s going on. They also said the show is adapted from the UK version, which is more raunchy and unfiltered, and that because it aired on CBS the American version was toned down.

  • Did Elizabeth Weber split the $100,000 prize with her partner Zach?

Yes. Elizabeth and Zach each picked an envelope; hers had the number on it and his had zero, which meant it was her choice whether to keep the whole $100,000 or split it, and she split it. She said she knows that if he had drawn it, he would have split it too.

  • What happened to Elizabeth Weber and Zach's relationship after the show?

According to Elizabeth, they got back in August, real-world factors started to mix in and put stress on the relationship, and it did not end up working out; it officially ended a few months later. She said they tried to work on things for a while, but it felt like forcing something that wasn’t going to work.

  • How is an influencer's pay per post determined?

The guests explained that pay depends on engagement and impressions, not just follower count, and on the male-female split of an account’s audience. They also mentioned Social Bluebook, a website where you can enter an account and see what its asking price for a photo should be based on its analytics.

  • Was Love Island USA scripted?

One of the guests said they had full rein over whom they talked to, and that the season was pretty tame, a PG version. They said that because CBS is a network, the show cast more neutral people and was very clean-cut compared with the UK version.
