Project Backpack Hits the Road!

After donating 23,000 backpacks to Detroit Public School Community District kids, and thousands more to families across Metro-Detroit at the Big Tent Backpack Event, Mike Morse Law Firm took Project Backpack on the road! This year, the program was expanded to provide hundreds of school essential-stuffed backpacks to Detroit Youth Choir, Pontiac Public Schools, and the Downriver communities. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

Destination 1:

Project Backpack Hits the Road!

Immediately following the August 21st Big Tent Backpack Event, Mike headed over to the International Gospel Center’s Back-2-School Bash and Concert where he helped distribute backpacks to over 300 students in Downriver communities. He was joined by other community leaders in supporting this incredible event, such as: Judge Kenneth J. King, Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, and Pastor Melvin Miles, who spearheaded the event. The Back-2-School Bash featured vaccination clinics, free haircuts, spectacular live performances, and more to get Downriver students ready for the 2021-2022 school year.

Destination 2:

On September 8th, we delivered over 150 backpacks to the one and only Detroit Youth Choir, who ascended to international stardom on America’s Got Talent!  The students and leadership graciously hosted us at Marygrove College where we were treated to a spectacular, private concert and surprise rendition of our 855-MIKE-WINS jingle! It was truly a memorable evening, and we’re so grateful for the incredible ways director Anthony White and his choir members lift up our community in their 25th anniversary year.

Destination 3:

Project Backpack Hits the Road!

On Monday of this week, Project Backpack made a stop at International Tech Academy in the School District of the City of Pontiac, where over 350 students were given backpacks filled with school supplies and — almost as importantly — ice cream! Our friend Peter Whittaker of Huron Wholesale Supply generously co-sponsored this backpack donation and was instrumental in bringing it to life. A Pontiac native, Peter wanted to give back to the community he holds so dear. So, when Peter asked Mike to bring Project Backpack to Pontiac, Mike immediately said yes. With the help of Project Backpack, Peter was able to make that generous wish a reality.

Project Backpack’s Work Isn’t Done Yet!

While Project Backpack has already helped so many students over the years, we are nowhere near achieving our mission. Mike Morse Law Firm is committed to student education and ensuring that every student in Metro Detroit has the tools necessary for success in the classroom so that they’re also set for success outside of the classroom. This year is just the start Project Backpack’s expansion and marks the beginning of an even greater mission to give back to our community!
