Lawsuit Seeks Justice for Fallen Detroit Officer

On October 28, Detroit Police officer Myron Jarrett, a loving husband and father of four, was killed by a hit-and-run driver. Mike Morse Law Firm has filed a $15 million dollar wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his family.

His wife describes him as “the ultimate family man,” Detroit Police describe him as “one of the city’s finest.” Tragically, Detroit Police officer Myron Jarrett was hit and killed at Puritan and Monica near Livernois on October 28, while on patrol investigating a separate crash. The suspect in the case, 54 year old Steven Guzina of Lincoln Park, faces multiple criminal charges including second-degree murder in the hit-and-run that ended the life of a hardworking, dedicated man.

Officer Jarrett, along with all of our city’s brave police officers, put his life on the line to serve and protect the citizens of Detroit every single day. Our intention is to bring his wife and four beautiful children justice for the loss of their loved one. We are here to protect this family and the community and send a strong message to reckless drivers that this type of senseless, outrageous behavior will not be tolerated.

Criminal Case Moves Forward

In addition to our civil lawsuit, the criminal case against Guzina is moving forward. On Tuesday, we were in court for the preliminary hearing. Officers testified that Guzina admitted to smoking crack cocaine several hours before the deadly hit-and-run and driving around while he was high. Guzina is accused of plowing into officer Jarrett’s police car with his white utility van, hitting the 40 year old officer and killing him.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Guzina’s criminal history includes a previous conviction for operating while intoxicated dating back to 2002.

Judge Lydia Nance Adams bound Guzina over for trial. He is scheduled to be arraigned in December. We offer our prayers and condolences to the Jarrett family, the 12 precinct and the brave men and women of the Detroit Police Department on this tragic loss.
