Project Backpack: A Grandmother’s Letter

For the past two years, Mike Morse Law Firm has proudly donated a total of 55,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to Detroit Public School students. Project Backpack has positively impacted the lives of thousands of children. Summer Lawrence is one of them. Her grandmother, Sherry Lawrence, sent us a letter describing in her own words the impact Project Backpack has had on her granddaughter, Summer. Watch this video to hear her heartfelt message.

Ms. Lawrence’s letter reads:

“Dear Attorney Morse, The beginning of the school year has arrived at Detroit Public Schools and my granddaughter, Summer Lawrence, will embrace the sixth grade. Last year, Summer was a recipient of the awesome school supplies and backpack donated by you, supplies needed to allow her and so many other Detroit students to excel academically. I want to inform you of your vitally important role in my granddaughter’s life and academic achievement. I never underestimate the impact you’ve made in her life, today and forever. It is a gift to be cherished and used for the purpose provided by you to achieve success without barriers. Please accept a copy of Summer’s fifth grade report card and certificates, evidence of her achievement. Keep these as a reminder of how important your service to the children of Detroit is. The billboards proudly proclaim, “Mike Wins.” It’s true. My granddaughter won this round and will have many more thanks to you. Sincerely, Sherry Lawrence”
